The area people search when they want a plot rather than a house. Area 49 has been the front line of Lilongwe's outward growth for years, so it carries a lot of undeveloped and part-developed land. Tenure is the thing to check here above all else — ask for the lease and the deed before you agree anything.
Malawi's capital and its biggest property market. Lilongwe is organised into numbered Areas rather than named suburbs, which is why almost every local search is for a number — Area 47, Area 49, Area 43. Broadly, the low numbers and Old Town are the older, denser, cheaper side of the city; the high numbers to the north and east are where the newer walled houses and the remaining serviced plots are. City Centre is offices and institutions rather than homes.
