Probably the most searched address in Lilongwe. Area 47 is large and internally varied — the sectors closer to the centre are established and expensive, while the outer sectors are still filling in with new construction. Almost everything is walled and gated, and quarters at the back are the norm rather than the exception.

Lilongwe is organised into numbered Areas rather than named suburbs, which is why almost every local search is for a number — Area 47, Area 49, Area 43. Broadly, the low numbers and Old Town are the older, denser, cheaper side of the city; the high numbers to the north and east are where the newer walled houses and the remaining serviced plots are. City Centre is offices and institutions rather than homes.
